Mounir - Bedouin guide
Mounir - Bedouin guide, with Lahajil

Spirit of the Sahara is a small organisation comprising myself, currently based in England, and a small team of Bedouin guides and camels drivers from the Adhara tribe.

Working from Douz, the ‘Gateway to the Sahara’, our aim is to make the beauty and peace of the Tunisian Sahara accessible to others, placing trekkers in the safe hands of experienced local Bedouin guides and complying with the requirements of the Tunisian authorities.

We are a non-commercial organisation, internet based, and keep overheads to a minimum, relying on word of mouth rather than high-profile advertising.

Our Service

We organise treks into the Tunisian Sahara - tailor made to your individual requirements. Our flexibility enables us to adapt to your needs such as arrival and departure dates, length of stay and group size. Our prices include airport transfers, 2 nights hotel accommodation and all your needs in the Sahara as standard.

Responsible Tourism

Our policy is to promote environmentally and socially responsible tourism and we are listed in the directories of Ecotours and Responsible Travel. Promoting the culture and lifestyle of the Bedouin, our treks have a minimal impact on the environment and use only local guides and provisions. We also organise a medical fund to support the Bedouin, without whom these treks would not be possible.

My “10 reasons to visit the Sahara” are featured in ‘The Travel Magazine’.
